My Gratuitous Baby Shots

In the past when I've done gratuitous baby shots, they've been of me. I shall unselfishly share my posting space to do some of Baby Whit too, though I may have to make up for it with some of me in the future. As you can see here, I have some very happy looking, if sleep deprived, parents. Just some stats updates for all you baby junkies out there, we all went to see the very cute Dr. McKenna yesterday (though Baby Whit doesn't think he's nearly as cute as I do) and all his vitals turned out great. One and a half weeks ago, he had weighed in at 6 lbs 2 oz. As of yesterday, he was us to 6 lbs 14.5 oz. Go Baby Whit, or maybe I should say, Grow Baby Whit.

My Outings

I think that Aunt Beth is worried about me being lonely, she seems to be making a concerted effort to make certain that I am cared for. Last Saturday morning, she just showed up at our house for a cup of coffee in the morning. Unannounced, she offered to take me over to her house to play for the day. As you can see here, I took her up on it unabashedly. See above, my cousin Char, one half of EmmyChar, pushing me in the swing.
Well, it turned out to be quite a day. After my nap, M&D took me out for another outing. You can see from the middle picture that Daddy packaged me into my backpack carrier and we went down the street to the Irish Festival. Daddy snapped a picture of the two of us with his phone in the mirror on the way out the door. Daddy said it was no mean feat hauling all thirty lbs of me all over Church Hill, but we still had a great time.

My First Days as a Big Sister

So I am now getting used to being a big sister. It's taken some time and some work. I've had to take a gigantic leap forward in my concept of sharing. At first it was all I could do to share my M&D with Baby Whit. But now I've gotten better about sharing other things. I share my time as you can see me sitting with him in the rocking chair. But my biggest step was sharing my prized possession. As my constant readers may know, Night Night Bear is the king of all other things in my domain. I sleep with him every night, without fail. In fact last night, there was a crisis as I was going to bed, he was no where to be found. M&D searched high and low, and in the process, Baby Whit spit up all over himself, but I needed to be mollified before anything could be done about that. Fortunately, after about 15 minutes, Daddy had the foresight to look under the sink in their bathroom to find my NNB. Pacified, I went directly to sleep, M&D cleaned and bathed Baby Whit and promptly opened a bottle of wine. But I digress, as you can see from the above picture, I briefly loaned NNB to Baby Whit, before Indian Giver taking him back.

My Crash Diet Revisited

Some of you may remember that I lost a little too much weight in the first week of my life and my parents had to spend an anxious weekend trying to teach me to nurse and having to go in for daily weight checks. History does seem to repeat itself and my baby brother Whit seems to have broken through. He realized early on that we really shouldn't try to emulate the waifish, rail-thin models that grace all of the media in our lives. Whit was born at 6'8, and as of yesterday's weigh in was right around 6 lbs for a total weight loss of 7.7%. 10% loss is the danger zone. This morning he went in for his weigh in, and was up to 6 lbs 3 oz, a gain of nearly 70 grams for you metric system users. Solidly out of the red zone, Whit was given dispensation of a two week reprieve before he has to go back and get checked out again. I'm glad, I was worried about him.

My Rio Trip Revisited

For my lucky few long time readers, you may remember my trip to Rio a couple of years back, if not, feel free to visit here. Well as you might notice from our family shot here, baby Whit looks noticeably tanner than the rest of the pale family. I thought they may have to serve him with the same trip under the blue french fry warmer that I was threatened with back then. But per his most recent bilirubin test, he is really not jaundiced and should normalize on his own. I guess we both lucked out.

My Baby Brother

So I have been anticipating a baby brother for quite some time now. With little fanfare, George Whitfield, my little brother Whit, arrived on Monday night at 8.59 weighing in at a grand 6 lbs 8 oz. You might remember I topped that slightly at 6 lbs 11 oz, but it's close. While I like him, I've been less than impressed. I can't play with him much, and he doesn't seem to do much other than cry and take up Mommy's time that is usually reserved for me. Daddy's trying to step in and fill the void, but sometimes you just need you some Mommy. I am warming up to him and have held him a couple of times, but the novelty wears off within about a minute each time. Since he seems to be what our time is centered around, I guess that's what I will be writing about mostly.
